Women may jump through hoops for NBA shoes

There’s a new weapon for the feisty divas of the “Basketball Wives” to add to their fashion arsenals.

A Florida shoe designer has created high-heel shoes and ballet flats bearing NBA team colors and logos.

The Boston Celtics [team stats] options include $99 platform, micro-suede pumps with 4.5-inch heels and $274.99 limited-edition, custom-made, kid-skin pumps that have 6.5-inch heels and are encrusted with crystals.

Holly Joffrion, who already had a self-named line of fashion shoes for five years, got the inspiration for Herstar in September.

“I’m a shoe designer by nature, and my husband is a big sports fan,” she said. “We got invited to go to an Orlando Magic game, and I couldn’t find anything to wear.”

Joffrion signed a licensing deal with the NBA to produce women’s dress shoes and is now selling them through Herstar’s website. She’s not despairing that the launch came amid the NBA playoffs.

“I know how women are with shoes,” she said. “I pretty much come up with any excuse to buy a new pair.”

And, next season, the Herstar shoes also will be sold in some NBA teams’ fan shops. Nine teams have signed on so far, but there’s been no confirmation from the Celtics, according to Joffrion.
